NETWORKS / AUTUMN / TASK 5

Put your proxy
through its paces.

A browser bench for SOCKS5 forwarding, concurrency and DNS recovery.

Before you start

  1. Start your proxy and configure this browser to use it as a SOCKS5 proxy.
  2. Enable DNS through SOCKS5. In Firefox, disable DNS over HTTPS for this test profile and select “Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5”. Remove bypass rules for the bench domain.
  3. For DNS cases, configure your proxy's UDP resolver to loading…. Pass it as the optional second command-line argument after your proxy’s listening port, as specified in the 2026 assignment.

The page cannot inspect browser proxy settings. Use a dedicated browser profile. No local helper is needed. Runs expire after 30 minutes; results stay in this tab and can be exported.

Results

Measurements describe this connection. There is no automatic direct-versus-proxy comparison. Slow-transfer tests exercise buffering but cannot prove bounded memory or CPU usage.

No tests run yet.

Resolver observations

Fresh per-run names avoid cached answers. Counts include browser connection retries: three queries alone do not prove three attempts per SOCKS request. No observations means the custom resolver was not reached; DNS results are then inconclusive.
